Project 02
Movie Costume
Budget Breakdown
This project involved creating a detailed costume budget for a conceptual Barbie movie featuring four characters. Using Excel, I built a complete cost breakdown that included item quantities, sourcing methods (build, rent, or purchase), and total costs in CAD. The purpose was to simulate real financial planning and documentation processes used in buying, budgeting, and production management.

I began by analyzing each character’s design direction and translating their personality into specific wardrobe components. From there, I categorized and itemized each costume element, allowing me to prioritize spending and determine where to invest or economize. By tracking all data in an organized spreadsheet format, I ensured the total budget stayed within the $8,000 limit.

This project strengthened my cost analysis, spreadsheet organization, and sourcing strategy skills. It showed me how buyers and production teams make decisions using clear, structured documentation and how budgets support creative outcomes while controlling expenses. Overall, this assignment directly prepared me for roles in fashion buying, administration, and operations by developing my ability to manage and communicate financial information effectively.
